The UK government introduces new controls on plastic
The government has introduced new controls on single use plastics in a bid to limit ocean pollution, covering plastic straws, plastic drinks stirrers and plastic cotton buds. This is in response to public reaction to David Attenborough's landmark Blue Planet II Documentaries nearly two years ago, showing how marine life was being harmed by plastic.
Some environmental groups have praised the move but say the government needs to take far more decisive action. Similar measures have been enacted in Scotland and are being considered in Wales.
