Traceable Taste: The Magic of Single Origin Coffee

We are obviously fans of single origin coffee. It is all we sell. There are a few reasons for this. We want our coffee to be traceable and delicious. By buying coffee from single regions and maintaining a close relationship with our suppliers we know where the coffee comes from. Single origin coffee also has a uniquely special flavour profile.

What is Single Origin Coffee?

Single origin coffee is coffee sourced from a specific region, country or farm. The flavour notes of a single origin coffee depend on the soil, the climate and the altitude it is grown at. All our single origin coffees come from areas at altitude and that’s why they are called Cloud Forest Coffees because of the cloud cover that is found at altitude.

Blended coffee is taken from a variety of regions. The theory is that by blending, the mixer will be able to balance the coffee. For example the roaster might balance citrus notes with chocolate notes. This makes blended coffee more consistent and subdued. We think they have less personality. A single blend coffee has a very distinctive flavour profile depending on where it is grown.

Why Choose Single Origin Coffee?

As mentioned, single origin coffees have personality. The terroir gives them their unique flavour, their special character (Cambridge Dictionary). Our Mexican La Sierra Cloud Forest coffee has notes of praline nuttiness and milk chocolate whereas our Kilimanjaro Cloud Forest coffee has cacao and spicy pepper notes.

For us, the most important reason to choose single origin coffees is the traceability. Our coffee can be traced to one specific area and often a single co-operative. We know the growers, their methods and the conservation work they do. Whereas a blended coffee is complex to trace back to all the sources. This makes supporting ethical farming practices more difficult.

Our Single Origin Coffees

Our single origin coffees are from some of the most notable regions across the globe.

If you want to try the different coffees we sell a taste collection pack so that you can experiment with which is your favourite.

Brewing Single Origin Coffee

We recommend using a coffee grinder to grind single origin coffee beans. We have a guide to coffee grinders, if you are just getting started and suggestions for the best beans for different types of coffee.

The Social Impact of Single Origin Coffee

We support our coffee growers with income so that they can get training on sustainable farming methods. This education helps them to increase their yields and live a better life with their families. They are also able to feed back into their communities, taking part in reforestation projects that increase biodiversity. Supporting us supports these farmers, rather than the money going into the pockets of large scale manufacturers or their shareholders.

Buy single origin coffees from our range of organic coffee beans, roast & ground coffee and coffee capsules.
